This is an workprint presentation made months before it’s official airdate. This is the original version of the pilot, which is titled “Tarzan and Jane”. All scenes involving Nicki are alternate. This is because the workprint has a completely different actress playing Nicki, who would later be replaced by Leighton Meester. There is also a deleted scene as well as one alternate shot. While the series has not been officially released on home media, the only known release is a TV airing, which will be used for this comparison.

In the workprint, after Jane shows Nicki a New York Post tabloid of Michael taking on the arsonist case, Nicki asks if Jane has seen her keys. When she does not respond, Nicki then asks her if she is okay. In the TV version, Nicki walks in and Jane reminds her to do the dishes. Nicki complains and wishes that she lived in a dormitory. Jane tells her she can live in a dormitory if she works two jobs and goes through school. Jokingly, Nicki says she would rather rob a bank. Jane responds by saying she would have to arrest her. After Jane shows Nicki the same tabloid, she puts the tabloid down with a disappointed look. This catches the attention Nicki and prompts her to ask if she is okay.

Jane manages to snap him out of it and tells that it is okay. She then tells him to come and they leave. The TV version has a longer shot of Tarzan and Jane getting up to leave.
